During the height of the pandemic, I accepted a position in the Office of Outreach and Inclusive Excellence at the New College of Florida, which serves as the honors college of Florida. With the support of this new office, NCF hopes to become a model for how a college community can provide an exceptional destination for people of a wide variety of backgrounds and identities. I’m excited to bring my administrative and event planning skills to help with this goal in any way that I can.
Since its founding in 1960, New College has been open to all students who are qualified for its academic program. The founders insisted that “Race, creed, national origin, or cultural status shall not be considered as a basis for denial of admission.” At the time when no other Florida college or university, public or private, had an open admissions policy, NCF was setting a new standard.
